DJ El Toro, who uses the code name “Kurt” while mixing with us civilians, has taken to the air- and internet-waves thanks to local media behemoth KEXP. He’s got better taste in music than you and me put together, and his voice is calm and relaxing – perfect for his 1-6am shift earlier this week (I think they’re just dropping him in wherever they can right now?). The streaming archive is good for two weeks, so go check it out right away. (Select Thursday 1/25, 1am.) Thanks for playing the Jeff Buckley, DJET!
[30-second edit: When I first posted this I forgot to mention that between KEXP, Microsoft and me, someone made it harder than it ought to be to play the damn stream. Use IE if you can stand it, or use a Mac if you can't. Just don't blame Kurt!]
Check this out – a rep from the company that makes the Left Behind game commented on my post from about eight months ago regarding that game, or I should say pasted in a generic response to mainstream criticism that has nothing to do with what I or my commenters wrote. Despite her mildly eccentric command of our shared language, I was tempted to check out her side of the story until I came to this closer:
“Thank you for taking the time to be a responsible blogger.”
Er, no thanks. Good luck with finding the responsible bloggers, though.
Why on earth is that not yet the name of a band, club or hair salon? Of course, I haven’t googled it, so if you find something, please let me know.
I got a fat sheet of address labels from a charity that wants my money:

Thanks to Paul for the shot.
This might not be entirely SFW unless you work in a medical office.
I just watched the first two parts of Adam Curtis’ excellent documentary The Power of Nightmares, which came in the two most recent issues of Wholphin. It is an insightful, oddly funny look at the parallel, mutually supporting rise of American neoconservatism and Islamic fundamentalist terror groups. Some very interesting connections become clear and the viewer is treated to the unusual perspective of Kissinger as good guy. The Wikipedia page has links to the video online if there’s no Wholphin in your life. Or ask me for the disks.
But especially Tom: Even in Canada, science museums are racing for the bottom.
Those big drug companies that Andrew Sullivan et al. love so much have got nothing to do with this insanely exciting development, and I predict will actively try to impede its R&D to prop up the value of their intellectual property.
But MSNBC. Go now and weep.
This captures everything you need to know about the internet. It should be sent into space so that plasma beings can understand us after we eat ourselves to death. Rowland’s stuff is well worth checking out all the time – he rivals Achewood’s Chris Onstad, at least occasionally, which is more than the rest of the universe can say for itself.
You said it, sister
